We had a full tank of gas and we were wearing sun glasses |
The clock was ticking…Tux deployed, pocket watch wound and placed…wedge of dosh in the pocket…I was ready, fighting off a sweat waiting for my loved one to complete her last finishing touches to her dress and accessories…We were ready, we had 30 mins…….it was 9 miles to Windsor, we had a full tank of gas and we were wearing sun glasses……… hit it!!
Arghhhhh…But we hadn’t taken into account that Ascot Races was meeting and it was closing time at Lego Land…the sweat was overwhelming now, but not a problem… we figured the Limo was caught in the same traffic…so arriving at the Davey residence allowed time for a glass of bubbly and our own photos, before stepping into the shiny white Limo, two magnums of champagne and good company. The evening had started….with Jon imitating Jeremy Beadle the evening was recorded for posterity as we gently cruised along the M4…feeling like royalty rather than an over rated soap star.. So if you want to avoid health and safety problems, check out the following... Prior Planning and Preparation Whether you are planning a local trip, a trip into London or going abroad, the execution and efficiency of your trip depends on the prior planning and preparation that you put into it. If you are travelling by car and don’t service your vehicle, or ensure the driver is Competent in the knowledge of the area, or verify any black spots on your journey – then you are placing the outcome in the hands or the Gods. The same as if when travelling abroad that you are not prepared for the location you are travelling and by what means, it could be a recipe for disaster. Planning your trip is a risk assessment, whether you write it down or not – you use your own knowledge or those you are travelling with to evaluate the needs for the trip. Examples: - Does anyone have special needs (disabled, medication, hypertension, diabetes etc) - If you have waiting times are the needs of the travelling party met (waiting for transport, are the areas safe, does it cater for the party members, are the areas safe and free from risk) - Have the correct instructions been provided for the Transport organizers (drop off/pick times, contingencies if there are failures or delays) - Do you have the correct documentation (Entry tickets, travel documents, driving license, past port, correct monies/currencies , location of cash points, contingencies in case of loss) Health and Safety is just like planning a trip, if you have a project or your business requires you to address Health and Safety and you don’t carry out the correct Prior Planning and Preparation then the same outcome could result in: - Loss of productivity by way of lost revenue or lost time (down time etc) - Property damage, (if you can’t operate you can earn a profit) - Polluting the environment (land, water or air) or - Worst of all injury to or death of an employee. (spare a thought of the different people and organisations and their time involved just dealing with an injury that results in an employee having time off work, various visits to the hospital and doctors – that is all lost time) So it pays to plan ahead, agreed a method to adopt, ensure that the correct controls measures are in place, only deal with people or organisations that are deemed competent and that way you can ensure that the outcome is exactly what you have in mind when you originally started planning.
