Calling all jazz enthusiasts in Berkshire!

The acclaimed Marlborough International Jazz Festival will be held on July 10th, 11th and 12th 2009 and Radio Bracknell, with its increasing reputation within the UK’s music community, has been appointed as the Festival’s official radio partner.

Radio Bracknell will promote the festival, including hosting a new weekly jazz show on Sunday evening dedicated to festival news and featuring artists booked to appear live at the event.

And what a galaxy of talent has been booked!

2009 newcomers include the legendary American pianist, Darius Brubeck; star South African singer, Esther Miller and The Perceptions, a new band formed by former members of the James Taylor Quartet.

It also features the UK’s finest funk artists, led by the stunning Latin percussionist, Snowboy. Courtney Pine guitarist, Cameron Pierre from Dominica is a huge find, as is top American vocalist Earl Thomas. They also have the wonderful international pianist, Amina Figarova and the MOBO award winner for the UK’s leading black artist, saxophonist YolanDa Brown.

Of course, many old favourites will be returning. These include Toscha Comeaux, Red Stripe, Jive Aces, Eduardo Niebla, Big Man Clayton, Pete Allen, Chris Jagger, and The Dutch Swing College Band. Radio Bracknell will also have a presence during the course of the festival weekend.

To enhance their customary African input, they have the wonderful, young 10-piece Acappella song and dance sensation, Umdome Wesizwe from Zimbabwe who will be featured on Radio Bracknell’s weekly series “Out of Africa” along with other traditional and modern music from the continent.

Festival Director, Nicholas Fogg, said: “'The Marlborough International Jazz Festival is proud to be associated with this young and vibrant radio station which is so clearly on the way up. Its combination of innovation and class can only enhance our image.”

Radio Bracknell’s Station Director, John Hicks, said: “The fact that the Brecon Jazz Festival is no more means that the Marlborough International Jazz Festival is now the biggest of its kind in the British Isles. Radio Bracknell is proud to be associated with this prestigious event”

The station is seeking more jazz show presenters as it extends it wide-ranging music offering to include more jazz programmes. It is inviting local jazz fans with access to a good home computer to share their passion for music by presenting their own show on Radio Bracknell. An open meeting is being held at South Hill Park on Wednesday 25th March at 7.30pm when presenters from the station will explain how enthusiasts can produce their own shows.

Details of the festival are available at www.marlboroughjazz.co.uk and Radio Bracknell’s website is www.radiobracknell.com
